Jovan Palalić: Serbia will not allow revision of the results of the Second World War
The Serbian people consider categorically unacceptable the attempts to revise the results of the Second World War which, unfortunately, are increasingly common, especially in Eastern European countries, where historical facts about the role of the Red Army in the liberation and victory over fascism are artificially substituted. Jovan Palalić, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, said this in an interview with Parlamentskaya gazeta.
“Such things will never work in Serbia. We will always remember the sacrifices that the Red Army made when liberating Belgrade and other Serbian cities from the fascist invaders. We cherish the tradition of commemorating these events. And this is expressed not only in the celebration of May 9 and other commemorative dates, but also in tending to graves and monuments to Red Army soldiers across Serbia. In this sense, the opening of the Eternal Flame in Belgrade was a significant event symbolizing the joint struggle of the Russian and Serbian peoples against Nazism,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
According to him, it is important to understand the reason of attempts to revise history. The attempts have deep geopolitical implications, such as NATO’s desire to consolidate by any means on the western borders of Russia, in the countries of the former Soviet Union that today are members of the EU and NATO or aspire to join these organizations, such as Ukraine.
The idea, according to Mr Palalić, is to change the mindset of new generations in these countries by revising the outcome of the Second World War and the role of the Red Army in their liberation to create a new, negative image of Russia. In this way, NATO seeks to render impossible Russia’s future political and cultural influence on these states.
“We see how much the West is ready to trample historical facts and justify the most disgusting ideologies that ever existed in the 20th century for the sake of short-term geopolitical gains. Collaborationists in Eastern Europe and the Baltics who fought on Hitler’s side and were common enemies of the Soviet Union and Western countries, become national heroes and liberators from Russian aggression. It is a striking fact that Western forces are willing to use criminal fascist ideology, making Nazis their allies, to build societies that would be directed against Russia,” Mr Palalić noted.
As you may recall, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has an observer status in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly since 2013, and Jovan Palalić is an active member of the delegation.
