Vitebsk Hosts the 64th Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia
On June 19, Vitebsk hosted the 64th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
The session was attended by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, parliamentarians, representatives of government agencies of the two countries and other officials.
The participants discussed the budget, the development of the Unified Transport System of the Union State, compulsory civil liability insurance for vehicle owners, the preservation of memorials and war graves in the territory of Belarus and Russia.
“We have to [increase] funding from the union budget for the restoration and improvement of the monuments to those who died in the Great Patriotic War,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
He also stressed that “it is important to remember the price of the Victory and do everything to preserve the historical heritage.”
Vladimir Andreichenko noted that the choice of the venue was not accidental. “The land of Vitebsk is not only a symbol of unbreakable will and heroic struggle against fascism during the Great Patriotic War. It is also a shining example of building mutually beneficial trade and economic ties, close inter-regional cooperation and, of course, the spiritual unity of our peoples,” he added.
As you may recall, this morning meeting participants laid wreaths and flowers at the Eternal Flame of the Memorial Complex in Vitebsk.
