Countering cyberthreats is the most important cooperation priority of CSTO States in 2021
Countering international hacker groups has been identified as a priority area for cooperation among Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization for 2021.
In an interview with Rossiyskaya gazeta, Rashid Nurgaliyev, deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, said that “all CSTO States today agree that the IT landscape is vulnerable. It is no coincidence that countering international hacker groups specializing in hacking information was identified as a priority area of cooperation between our countries for 2021.”
In addition to this, intelligence services and law enforcement agencies of the CSTO will continue active cooperation in countering cyberattacks and prosecuting administrators of criminal online resources.
Special attention will be paid to neutralizing cyberactivities aimed against the foundations of the constitutional order and state security. In addition, this year, according to Rashid Nurgaliyev, the CSTO will continue to conduct joint operation PROXY aimed at countering the use of information technology for criminal purposes.
Today the secretaries of the CSTO security councils of the CSTO States, including Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, and Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, met in Dushanbe with Emomali Rahmon, CSTO CSC Chairman and President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
A meeting of the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the CSTO Member States, chaired by Nasrullo Mahmudzoda, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Tajikistan, was held in Dushanbe on April 29.
The CSSC discussed security issues, countering challenges and threats, and measures to neutralize them.
According to the CSTO press service, the Committee considered the epidemiological situation in the world, the issues of counteracting colour revolutions, detecting and suppressing illegal channels of financing of opposition organizations.
The Committee analysed the information security situation and spoke in favour of steadily increasing cooperation within the CSTO against terrorism amid deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and against drug trafficking as one of the principal sources of terrorism funding.
Particular attention was paid to the coordination of activities of CSTO States to establish a robust biosecurity system.
