On January 9, 2022 one of the outstanding veterans of the CSTO bodies, Akhmet Khataev, a well-known Russian economist, member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Doctor of Economics, professor, member of the Union of Writers of Russia turned 75 years old.
From 2003 to 2016, Akhmet Khataev worked in the Federal Service for Drug Control of the Russian Federation (FSDC of Russia), combining it with academic work.
In 2003, he received a PhD in Economics, having defended his thesis on Development of Institutions and Mechanism of Interaction of Tax (Financial) Investigation Bodies in CIS States, and later became Professor at the Economics and Economic Security Department of the Academy of Economic Security of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
From 2005 to 2011, he held the position of Secretary of the Coordination Council of the Heads of Competent Authorities for Countering the Illicit Drug Trafficking (CCBCD) of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Member States.
Mr Khataev was one of the organizers of international anti-drug cooperation between the FSDC of Russia and competent authorities of foreign states and international organizations.
In early 2000s, he developed the procedure and methodology of integration of state anti-drug law enforcement systems. In 2005, Akhmet Khataev’s insights provided the basis for the creation of the CSTO CCBCD that subsequently became the headquarters of anti-drug forces of the Eurasian region. He developed, tested and implemented a methodology for an international preventative operation to shut down transnational drug trafficking through the territory of CSTO Member States that was subsequently recognized at the international level as an effective organizational and management mechanism for coordinating anti-drug activities of law enforcement agencies in Eurasia.
Mr Khataev’s role as one of the leading experts on integration of state law-enforcement systems in ensuring collective security against drug threats is recognized by many countries of the Eurasian region. In particular, he has received state and departmental awards from Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. He has also been awarded the CSTO Medal and a service weapon.
Akhmet Khataev is a member of the Union of Writers of Russia. He is the author of a number of literary works, including the trilogy Krovavy sled: Echelon bespraviya (1997), Vrag naroda (2000), Nochi bez Boga (2005); novels Pokayaniye Iudy (2012) and Bitva nad bezdnoi (2016) which won the Russian literary award The Shield and Sword of the Fatherland, and a novella Zvezdy svetyat vsem (2021).
His cycle of children’s stories Dozor (2015) won him a certificate of merit of the Ershov International Competition.
