Viktor Bondarev: Russia works with Armenia within the CSTO to ensure security in the region
Viktor Bondarev, member of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Chairman of the Committee on Defence of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, wrote in his Telegram channel that Armenia is one of the key strategic partners in the CIS region, recalling that Russia aims for a constructive dialogue and good neighborly relations with all CIS states.
“Diplomatic relations were established thirty years ago, and since then the friendship, partnership and cooperation between Russia and Armenia have only grown stronger. We cooperate through the CSTO and guarantee assistance in ensuring Armenia’s security if its integrity, independence and sovereignty are threatened. The Russian military base in Gyumri is a stronghold protecting the Asian region from external aggression,” Viktor Bondarev stressed.
The Member of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Chairman of the Committee on Defence of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation noted that when the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and neighboring disputed territories flared up again in autumn 2020, Russia made invaluable and crucial contribution to its peaceful settlement. Now the Russian peacekeeping contingent stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh is ensuring compliance with the agreements reached, preventing a recurrence of hostilities and possible genocide of civilians.
“Effectively, the foreign policy vector chosen by our President has allowed Russia to regain its centuries-old status of a defender state. The peoples whose troubles and problems are ignored by the world community now rely on Russia and its leader,” stressed Viktor Bondarev.
