Vladimir Putin spoke of the utmost importance of fuel and energy security
“Global economy in general, the fuel and energy sector are in the middle of, let me be direct, an acute crisis due to unstable price dynamics of energy resources, an imbalance in supply and demand and the overtly subversive actions of individual market participants, who are guided solely by their own geopolitical ambitions, resort to outright discrimination in the market, and if that does not work, they simply destroy the infrastructure of their competitors,” said Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, at the plenary session of the Russian Energy Week on October 12.
President of the Russian Federation specified that in this particular case he means the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.
“There is no doubt that this is an act of international terrorism, the purpose of which is to undermine the energy security of the entire continent. The logic is cynical: to destroy and block cheap energy sources, hence depriving millions of people, industrial consumers of gas, heat, electricity and other resources and forcing them to buy all this at much higher prices,” emphasized the President of the Russian Federation. “The attack on the Nord Streams has set an extremely dangerous precedent,” stressed Vladimir Putin.
According to him, the terrorist attacks showed that any critical transport, energy or communication infrastructure is now under threat, regardless of where in the world it is located, who controls it, whether it is laid on the seabed or on land.
According to the President of the Russian Federation, Nord Streams were sabotaged by someone who wants to break off the ties between Russia and the European Union once and for all, wants to undermine and destroy Europe’s political agency, weaken its industrial potential and appropriate the market. And, of course, someone who is, it must be emphasized, technically capable of arranging such explosions and has already resorted to such sabotage, has been caught red-handed, but remained unpunished.
“As for the beneficiaries, they are clear. I think there is no need to go into details, because the geopolitical significance of the remaining gas systems increases,” said the President of the Russian Federation.
“It is possible to repair the Nord Stream pipelines, but it will make sense only in case of further operation and ensured security,” stressed the President of the Russian Federation.
As you may recall, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted model laws On Security of Critical Facilities and On Energy Security.
