Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma and Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, and Vahid Jalalzadeh, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy, met in Moscow on October 31.
The parties discussed Russia-Iran inter-parliamentary cooperation, regional security and the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Vahid Jalalzadeh handed Vyacheslav Volodin a message from the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, requesting support for the “oppressed people of Palestine,” including through parliamentary channels.
The State Duma Speaker said Russia and Iran were interested in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East.
“Washington is doing everything to ensure more tension in different parts of the world. Through this, it is trying to maintain its hegemony,” Vyacheslav Volodin said. He added that these actions are reprehensible and that the US should answer for what is happening in the Middle East.
Vahid Jalalzadeh thanked the leadership of the Russian Federation “for the effective measures that Russia is taking in the Security Council, as well as Russia’s positive vote in favour of the resolution that was adopted by the UN General Assembly.”
“We, too, believe that the US is a direct accomplice to all the events that are taking place in the Gaza Strip. The world is developing, but the Americans, it seems to me, are lagging behind. Because everyone understands that a multipolar world is being formed. But they still think that they are a superpower and at the helm of a unipolar world,” said the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy.
Vyacheslav Volodin asked to convey to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament an invitation to pay an official visit to Russia.
As you may recall, on December 5, 2022, a delegation of Iranian parliamentarians headed by Vahid Jalalzadeh took part in a meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow.
