Vyacheslav Volodin and Alen Simonyan agree to promote inter-parliamentary cooperation at international venues, including the CSTO PA
During the meeting with Alen Simonyan, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, noted that the sides had already gone a long way to promote the parliamentary dimension of their relations. At the same time, Vyacheslav Volodin expressed hope that such cooperation will continue to strengthen.
“It will inevitably bring benefits for our citizens. This is what we are working for, so that our countries are strong, and people live in peace and friendship. That is our task,” he said.
“Russia and Armenia enjoy special strategic relations,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
In this regard, he proposed to continue developing a common position of the two countries at international venues when discussing issues affecting the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, reports the press service of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
“This is a new level of inter-parliamentary cooperation, because we tend to talk a lot about friendship, but friendship should be manifested in concrete actions. We hope that by working within the parliamentary dimension, we will prioritize this venue,” Vyacheslav Volodin stressed.
He reminded that delegations of Russia and Armenia work within the frameworks of the PACE, OSCE PA, CIS IPA, CSTO PA and Inter-Parliamentary Union. In his opinion, all those structures require joint decisions.
“We will all benefit from it. And we will do it exclusively in the interests of our states, because, indeed, relations between Russia and Armenia differ from those with other countries,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
He also stressed that Russia and Armenia are allies, united by the Collective Security Treaty.
"We will do everything so that each of our meetings will be a step forward in the development of inter-parliamentary relations, allowing us to address specific issues for the be nefit of our citizens,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
The CSTO PA Chairman noted that the talk was open and candid. He also thanked the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia for paying his first visit to Russia. “It is important for us. Above all, it underscores the level of relations and the commitment to build communications and to understand the issues that concern the Russian side,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
